Home Sweet Hoosier covers the ins-and-outs of newlywed life
Lexi blogs at Home Sweet Hoosier, where she shares her insight on newlywed life, buying and selling a house, DIY projects for the home and creative date nights. Meet Lexi …
Where I’m based: Ann Arbor, Mich.
How long I’ve been blogging: I started my first blog when I was planning my wedding as a way for my bridesmaids around the country to know what was going on with the wedding — it became much more than that as I found that I really enjoyed writing it and making connections with other bloggers! Once the wedding planning was over, Home Sweet Hoosier became my home.
Blog/business basics: The blog went from wedding planning to post-marriage, pre-baby life. I love to share decor ideas, home improvement projects and just what’s going on in my life, in general.
What do you enjoy most about blogging? The opportunity to share my thoughts and accomplishments with others. I love DIY-ing (is that a thing?) and it’s so fun to share the things I’ve made with others who also enjoy it!
Guilty pleasure: Friends — I wouldn’t say I feel guilty about it, but it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen an episode (and I have seen them all) if Friends is ever on TV, I watch it and when my husband is out of town, that’s my go to bed time entertainment.
Last thing I bought: A cute IKEA coffee cart! We just recently moved from a house to an apartment and needed somewhere to put my Keurig. I’m totally in love with it — it keeps my counters clear and has tons of storage to keep my coffee and tea organized!
Fav stores: For clothes, I love The Limited, New York and Company, Ann Taylor and Kohl’s. For the home, I’m a sucker for a deal so I really love to shop at HomeGoods! For online shopping, Amazon.com is usually my first stop (they have everything) and I’ve recently been window shopping at Joss & Main.
How’s life as a newlywed? Life as a newlywed is awesome. My husband and I had a whirlwind first year of marriage –- we changed jobs and moved 1,000 miles, bought a house and lost my Grandmother within about a month of getting married. We did a lot of work on the house in our first two years and now as we are in the beginning of year three, we have moved again and sold a house. We are really looking forward to having some time to relax, enjoy each other and get to know our new city.
What DIY projects do you have on your plate? I’m kind of at the point now that it’s time for me to regroup and decide what’s next on my DIY list. I think this year will be focused on DIY gifts (especially for Christmas) and getting really organized.
What’s the most exciting thing you did this summer? I went to Greece! I never met my dad’s dad — he died 5 months before I was born, but he came to the United States from Greece and visiting there has been something my parents and I have always wanted to do. Because it was my 30th Birthday and their 40th Wedding Anniversary in July, we made the journey. It was amazing and I am so hopeful that it’s not my only time visiting.
