Life’s a peach: The health benefits of the fruit and delicious recipes
By Brittany Anas
It’s that peachy-keen time of year when our favorite fuzzy fruit is at its peak. The peach packs roughly 40 calories, has 3 grams of fiber and is a good source for Vitamins A and C. You’ll also get some potassium, fluoride and iron from the fruit.
And not only is it good for our health, but it can also work wonders on our skin. (Tip: When you’re done peeling a peach for one of the delicious recipes below, massage your face with the underside of the peel before bed. The juice will give your skin a fresh glow and tighten up your skin).
As we celebrate the month of the peach, we know you’ve got some delicious cobbler and jam recipes. But how about honoring the peach with some less sugary options, too?
If you’ve picked some peaches at your grocery store recently, get the most out of them by slicing them up and adding them to your cereal and milk to boost the nutritional profile of your breakfast. Or, garnish your yogurt with some diced up peaches for a healthy snack. A juicy peach on your salad takes away the need for a dressing.
Here are a few other healthy ways you can get the most out of peach season:
Peach salsa: This seasonal twist on salsa is easy and can be served with tortilla chips or even used to garnish a salad or veggie burrito. Combine one cup of chopped peaches, 2 tablespoons of finely chopped red bell peppers, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped green onions, 2 teaspoons of fresh, chopped cilantro and 1/8 teaspoon of salt.
