Luv Saving Money blogger offers frugal tips, fab finds and giveaways galore
Angie, from Luv Saving Money also loves giveaways, sharing her insight on products she uses and providing frugal tips that make living on a budget doable for all of us. Plus, as a mother of four, she knows great ways to budget. But don’t take it from us — hear from the woman herself.
Where I’m based: South Central, Pa.
How long I’ve been blogging: Four years actively.
Blog basics: In general, I write about ways to save money, whether it be through couponing, deals, freebies or green living. With a family of six, budgeting is a must, but I love knowing that I paid way less for the same thing someone else paid full price for.
Other blogs I love: Precisely Mine. I like her honest reviews and she does movie and show reviews, too, of entertainment I don’t normally have time to keep up on. I also like A Better Reflection Blog. It’s relatively new, but she has great advice on living a healthy lifestyle — which I definitely need help with.
Guilty pleasure: Entering sweepstakes; I’m addicted.
Last thing I bought: I have a newborn baby daughter — she is my only daughter; I have three older boys. So, I have a hard time passing up cute baby girl things, especially if they’re on sale.
What’s the biggest challenge you run into when trying to save money? Unexpected expenses. Like, a few years ago, the electric company rates went up and about doubled our electric bill, or unexpected car repairs. The important thing to remember is to always leave breathing room in your budget and put money into savings for just such an occasion.
What’s your favorite product that you’ve reviewed? There are a lot of products I’ve reviewed that I still use or have bought more of. I love Loveable Labels. I have some for each of the kids — they stick well and make it easy to label the kids’ things for school. I even have some for myself that I put on my storage containers and things. I’m also an AVEENO ambassador for the third year in a row. One of the reasons I keep signing the papers is because I love what they do as a company as far as environmental impact and giving back and they have some great products that I, of course, get to try out.
What’s the best thing you’ve gotten for free? If you set aside review products and look at actual freebies that anyone could get, I got a Phillips sonicare toothbrush with a UV sanitizer as part of the Bzzagent program. I also won a digital camera from a sweepstakes and a Sharp Steam Wave oven from a sweepstakes.
What’s your favorite place to shop? It really depends what I’m looking for. Recently, I discovered this great local children’s consignment shop near me called EcoKids that has clothing in great shape and the prices are very reasonable. For shoes, I love Nomad Footwear — stylish shoes with awesome sales. I’m also a fan of Ross for housewares, gourmet cooking ingredients, etc.
Do you ever splurge? Of course. Sometimes there are things I really, really want, but might not be so frugal-friendly. I either save for them and reward myself or wait for a time when I might have a bit of extra money — like with a tax return. My bills and kids’ needs always come first, but you gotta splurge sometimes. Once or twice a year, we’ll take the whole family for a nice family dinner out, too, which is a real treat with a family of six.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you? When I was a teenager, and even starting into college, I would say I never wanted to have kids and never wanted to get married. I wanted to live life for me and travel. LOL. Wow, things change. I wouldn’t change being a wife and mother for anything now and feel so lucky that I have my wonderful hubby and my four children.
