Marie Claire fashion director Nina Garcia lends style eye to JC Penney
By Brittany Anas
Ever wish you could go shopping with a fashion icon?
Thanks to a new partnership, you can. Nina Garcia — fashion director of Marie Claire magazine and judge of Lifetime’s reality show Project Runway — has partnered with JC Penney to be the store’s “style voice” helping guide designs. As a shopper, you’ll notice the New York Times best-selling author is also a “fashion collection curator,” meaning she’ll help point you to some of the season’s best trends.
“Known for her discerning eye, Nina is a tremendous addition to our team,” says Liz Sweney, chief merchant of JC Penney in a news release. “We look forward to leveraging her global fashion expertise as we provide our customers with attainable style advice and ideas.”
For her part, Garcia is working with JC Penney’s merchandise and design teams to offer advice on clothing trends. You can spot her “must-haves” online now. JC Penney says there will also be “social media chats” with Garcia throughout the year, too.
In sum, the guiding principle behind the partnership is to bring some fresh perspectives to the retailer.
Want to pick Garcia’s style-savvy mind? Here are some of the trends she’s spotting for JC Penney this month. (P.S., you can save up to 4 percent Cash Back on those stylish finds at JC Penney when you buy through ShopAtHome.com)
- Head to toe prints? Yes, says Nina. Check out this jacquard print with fun Studio 9 brocade pumps. The daring look is inspired by the runways and Nina says the key to pulling it off is keeping accessories minimal.
- Animal sweaters. This isn’t your everyday animal print. Sweaters adorned with whimsical animal prints are majorly in this fall. We’re talking quirky fox prints and the adorable mugs of french bulldogs. Nina says: “Be playful and mix it up, choosing an owl one day and a fox the next.”
- Military-inspired. We’re not talking Army greens or camoflauge (though camo prints are trending this fall). Nina salutes the utilitarian detailing that can be found on this black and taupe belted dress that is adorned with gold buttons.
