Merrick’s Art: A blog that encapsulates creativity
Merrick is a fashionable mom of two. She is the creator of Merrick’s Art, and with her sewing, painting and styling, she lives up to the name of her blog. She shares her passion for clothes and creating through her blog, and if she goes a day without chocolate — doom’s day is near. We like her as much as she likes chocolate. Meet Merrick …
Where I’m based: Huntington Beach, Calif.
How long I’ve been blogging: I started my blog when I got married, almost seven years ago, but I’ve been seriously blogging for only about the last two years.
Blog/business basics: Fashion, style, sewing and refashioning — and a little bit about my family thrown in there occasionally!
What do you enjoy most about blogging? The opportunities! I feel so blessed every day for the ability to be a stay-at-home mom to my two little boys, while still being able to do what I love (style and sewing), which has resulted in meeting amazing people, attending events, discovering incredible companies and so many other amazing opportunities!
Guilty pleasure: Stupid TV. I have zero time to watch TV, but I’m obsessed with The New Girl and The Mindy Project and sneak an episode in every few weeks when I get a chance!
Last thing I bought: A gorgeous cobalt blue top from Nordstrom.
How did you become an artist? My mom noticed my talent when I was little and after on-and-off art lessons for a few years, she forced me to take an art class in high school. With a great teacher and some impressive classmates, I fell in love and went on to get a college degree in art, as well as a few years of post-graduate studies under some really amazing artists.
Where’s the most amazing place you’ve ever traveled? Europe. I studied abroad in London for two months during college and we traveled to France and to northern England. Everything there just has so much history and character, you can’t help but love it!
What are you sewing these days? I have a few fun refashions in the works (a dress refashioned to a skirt, three shirts refashioned into a dress, a pretty graphic tee) and I’m slowly working through my ginormous pile of fabric I bought during a recent Fabric Blogger Weekend at the LA Fabric District!
What’s your chocolate of choice? Anything with caramel, or just a handful of chocolate chips if I need a quick fix.
