Like Michelle Obama’s bangs? Try out the look with clip-in bangs
By Brittany Anas
When the First Lady cut bangs and sported her new hairstyle for the inauguration, it quickly became the talk of the town, err nation.
On Tuesday, she explained why she gave herself bangs for her 49th birthday. In an interview — which will air Wednesday — she told talk-show host Rachael Ray: “This is my mid-life crisis, the bangs. I couldn’t get a sports car. They won’t let me bungee jump. So instead, I cut my bangs.”
Let’s call them “The Bangs.” Afterall, they have their own Twitter handle and Saturday Night Live skit. And, they are rivaling the cute bangs of Zooey Deschanel’s character on “New Girl.” Let’s hope no bang fights break out.
First ladies have done bangs before: Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison, wife of President Benjamin Harrison, had some wildly curly bangs that looked a little bit like those of a poodle. Mamie Eisenhower’s tight-curled, short bangs looked baby-like.
But “The Bangs” sported by Michelle Obama are just right. And, in case you were wondering, President Barack Obama likes them, too.
Bang styles have come a long way since your mom gave you a straight-across blunt cut for your school pictures in sixth grade, the same unfortunate year when you had a mouth full of wire.
Tinkering with the idea of bangs? Why not try out some clip-in ones to see if you like the way they look and gauge the reaction of your friends?
Ken Paves, the stylist of Jessica Simpson’s glamorous locks, has a line of extensions including bangs for various hair colors that are sold at Sears. They’re easy to clip in and can blend well with your natural hair color. You can clip the faux hair to make them work with your facial shape.
Other options are clip-in bangs from Ulta or these “winge” clips from Asos that come in some hip colors, such as vibrant red.
