Micro-fashion: Polka dots, plaid and funny foxes in Gap Baby Collection

(Corduroy will be a big hit this fall, but it’s coming brighter colors and playful patterns on kids’ pants and dresses).

Sure, all eyes might have been on New York Fashion Week. But — oh, baby! — there were some adorable trends cropping up at Gap for little ones. Polka dots, plaid jumpsuits and cheeky animal prints. If anybody can get away with rocking the trend du jour, it’s pint-sized fashionistas whose growth spurts are as frequent as new trends. (It’s OK if you’ve ever had a little outfit envy inspired by Angelina Jolie’s adorable brood or Harper, who got to sit on mum Victoria Beckham’s lap at New York Fashion Week).
Here are some trends we’re spotting in kid’s clothing. But, we guarantee that some of these latest toddler fashions will be just as cute as handy-me-downs, too.

Colored corduroys: Cords are coming back this fall for all ages. And, unlike past years, they’re not just re-emerging in earthy-toned colors. They’re bright. And bold. And, these itty bitty corduroy pants are adorned with a flower print. Awe. Cords are thicker than leggings, making them a good option for those chilly fall and winter days. The classic fall fabric is also available on dresses.
Cheeky animal prints: The animal prints on kids clothes look so realistic, you’d think they were transposed from encyclopedias — put they are jazzed up with the age-appropriate silliness. A onesie with a moose wearing roller skates is captioned “moose on the loose” and another graphic onesie shows off a dog in a party hat. But, hands down, our favorite is a fox beanie — which does the job of keeping your little one’s head warm, yet with a fun costume appeal.
Polka dots: Sweet polka dots are on everything from leggings to socks to cashmere blankets and dresses. Your best deal? A black and white bodysuit for $12.95 that is made all the more pretty with a mini bow.
Plaid: We’re mad about plaid this fall. But, an unexpected and delightful way that the print is appearing on little kids’ clothes is on the cuffs of jeans. Flip up the ankle on their denim, and you’ve got a preppy plaid cuff that will look adorable with a mini pair of boots.
