Midi skirts are having a major fashion moment

(ASOS has dozens of midi skirts — include plus-sized and tall options).

We caught our first glimpse of the midi skirt trend in early fall 2013. The hot hemline is having a major fashion moment with fashion icons like Kourtney Kardashian, Victoria Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker often photographed in the modest and feminine skirts, which have a dash of vintage charm.
The runways hint that midi skirts have some staying power and are gearing up for a round 2 in fall fashion magazines and in stores. We love them for work and the weekends. You never have to worry if they are an appropriate length. (Who else remembers middle school when you had to extend your arms to your side to make sure your skirt met the ‘length test’?). And we’re also digging midi skirts because they are a sophisticated alternative to the relaxed maxi dress and the sassy mini skirt.
Styling a midi skirt can be a bit tricky since the circle skirts add volume and the tighter midis hit mid-calf, shortening your legs. Create the illusion of longer legs with heels (bonus points for nude-colored pumps as they have elongated superpower). Avoid looking frumpy by cinching the waist with a belt or looking for a midi that defines your waist. To give the skirt a casual balance, pair it with something unexpected — like a fun graphic T-shirt, crop top or scoop neck tank.
We’ve scouted some of our fave stores with Cash Back offers from ShopAtHome.com and found great deals on midi skirts perfect for work or play.
- Vince Camuto Ruched Midi Tube Skirt, $69 from Nordstrom. Ruching and draping on this stretch skirt and it’s neutral colors — a navy or “safari green” — make it a great closet staple. Deal alert: Earn up to 17 percent Cash Back at Nordstrom.
- Midi floral skirt, $76.22 from ASOS. The online store is stocked with dozens of midi skirts — with plus-size and tall options — and many are under $100. We’re loving the bright pops of blue for summer on this midi skirt. Pair it with a crop top or a more prim button-up shirt and leather jacket come fall.
- Allen Schwartz Dress midi dress with sheath. A chic and sophisticated sleeveless sheath in a moody blue is made even more interesting with mesh insets. Save on your splurges at Bloomingdales with Cash Back.
