5 tips for a last minute (and budget friendly) New Year’s Eve bash
If you’ve waited until the last minute to plan a formal party, complete with sit-down dinner for two dozen of your closest friends, it’s probably not in the cards.
But if you’re willing to relax a bit and keep things casual, it’s not too late to make some calls, shop online and toast in the new year with some of your nearest and dearest.
We’ve suggested five products that will help you with your last-minute New Year’s Eve celebration:
Toast in the New Year:
For this, you’ll need enough champagne glasses. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune: At Cost Plus World Market, you’ll find the glasses you need – and in many stores, the sparkling wine to pour in them. A set of six classic flutes won’t cost a fortune. Madison Flutes Set of 6, $11.94 (plus Cash Back), Worldmarket.com
Light it up:
Who says lights only belong on a Christmas tree? We see a lot of sparkling blue on New Year’s Eve, so why not head to the stores (go right after Christmas for real deals) to pick up a few strands of blue lights to string around windows, mirrors or anywhere that needs a bit of showing off. Philips Mini Lights Blue 100 Count, $4.99 (plus Cash Back), Target.com
Toss up some color:
When that countdown begins, be sure you have a few bowls full of confetti scattered around for your guests to grab and toss. We’re partial to this bright confetti, as it’s large (read: easier to clean up). Plus, you’ll have enough with this bulk buy to celebrate the next big event. Jumbo Paper Confetti, $53.55 (plus Cash Back), Walmart.com
Take a crack
What’s more fun – the noise or the prize? Popping these crackers is a European tradition, but it’s catching on in the U.S. at Christmas and New Year’s. Pop the cracker and you’ll find the prize. Wine Charms Snowflake Cracker, $15.96 (plus Cash Back), Pier1.com
Spell it out:
Walmart has everything from hats to wall hangings that will tell people it’s 2016. We were partial to these lanterns and black and silver that spell out “Happy New Year.” Sparkling New Year’s Paper Lanterns, $14.85 for three, Walmart.com
