Office style: What to wear to work this summer
It’s (almost) summertime when the livin’ is easy. But what’s not easy during the summer? Getting dressed for work.
Balancing the hot temperatures outside and arctic air conditioning inside while still looking professional is no small feat. That said, with a few seasonal staples you can be comfortable in the office, without looking like you’re headed for a day at the beach.
One-piece wonder
This Asos dress is actually dubbed an “evening dress,” but we think it’s perfect for the office because of the knee-length hemline and soft pink shade. The embellished neckline means you don’t need jewelry and the short sleeves mean you can leave the cardigan at home, too. Summer dressing doesn’t get easier than pulling on a great dress and heading out the door. Asos Petite Debutante dress with embellished neck, $87, asos.com
Cropped, but not on top
Crop tops are on trend, but not work appropriate for most offices. Instead, don a pair of cropped pants with heels and you’ll give a suit jacket a lighter feel that is just right for the hot days ahead. 7th Avenue slim straight crop pant, $25 on sale, nyandcompany.com
Light layer
Swap out your dark wool blazer for a white knit one to lighten up, but still look polished with a dress, skirt or those cropped pants. And, if your office allows jeans on Friday, this blazer the perfect finishing piece so that you don’t look too casual. Caslon knit one-button blazer, $59, nordstrom.com
Simple shell
This pretty periwinkle top can be worn under a blazer or a cardigan and because it’s sleeveless you’ll be cool under pressure during your next presentation. Geo Clip jacquard shell, $98, jcrew.com
Pattern piece
Summer is all about fun and patterns bring a playful vibe to any look. Mix this bright skirt with a simple button-up or cardigan to look and feel great at the office. Loft Globetrotter Stroll skirt, $59.50, loft.com
Flat-out fantastic
Let’s all agree that flip-flops have no place in an office. Many corporate businesses also frown upon any type of open-toe shoe. So pick up a pair of these ballet flats (that come in an amazing array of colors) and keep your style on point this summer. MICHAEL Michael Kors Fulton moc flats, $79.99-$110, macys.com
