5 ways to use Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year
A little bit pink, a little bit blue. Next year is sure to be colorful and diverse, after Pantone released its annual Color of the Year.
For the first time, for 2016 Pantone has named two colors as the next big hue, er, hues.
Next year, look for a blending of Rose Quartz and Serenity, an airy, cool sky-blue color with a hint of purple. Rose Quartz is a pastel, warm, soft pink shade.
How to wear and decorate with them
Pair Rose Quartz and Serenity together for a truly unique look. Picture a sunset (Rose Quartz) against a spring sky (Serenity).
Typically, designers are forced to pick between complementary cool shades or warm shades, and rarely do you see a room in both pink and blue. Break those rules in 2016. Some even consider this an expression of gender equality and fluidity.
Look for these two colors in all different finishes, from matte to glossy. Pair them with rich browns, a pop of yellow or make them sparkle with accents of silver.
Accent with jewelry:
Rose Quartz makes a stunning jewelry piece, such as the Bronzart rose quartz and mother-of-pearl bangle at Macys.com. This bracelet, originally $550, is marked way down right now. It is the classic, timeless way to wear this trendy shade. Bronzart 18k Rose Quartz Mother of Pearl Bangle, $199.50 (plus Cash Back), Macys.com
Accent your house:
Candles are the jewelry of home decor: an easy way to experiment with trends and update your look, without committing too deeply. We love the Fornasetti Ortensia candle at Nordstrom, whose stunning and artistic outside seamlessly blends both pink and blue flowers.
This candle is much more than just a decoration. It’s a piece of artwork. Italian artist Piero Fornasetti became famous for painting thousands of unusual objects, and his legacy continues today with his artwork reinterpreted on fun household objects. Make the combo the main attraction:
If you’re feeling bold, make the blue and rose combo your main fashion statement, with a dress that nicely fuses the two. We love the printed, high-neck, shift dress at Target.com. This multi-pattern dress is totally trendy — and for only $29.99.Women’s Printed High-Neck Shift Dress, $29.99 (plus Cash Back), Target.com
Bring them together on your face:
Don’t be afraid to pair rose lipstick with a pop of blue shadow or liner next spring. Estee Lauder’s Pure Color lipstick in Rose Tea is the perfect rose shade. Clinique’s Chubby Stick Shadow Tint in Big Blue adds enough cool grey to the blue to steer it clear from the outdated ‘80s. You’ll love it.
