The perfect London-to-Paris vacation, part 2: luxury in Paris
By Aimee Heckel
Yesterday, the Spa Travel Gal, Ava Roxanne Stritt, walked us through the first half of her dream London-to-Paris trip. Today, we follow her to Paris on the Eurostar, as she shares her favorite French travel inspirations.
Train travel can be a real treat, Stritt says. In fact, with the Eurostar, she says, “Train travel is meant to be luxurious as it once was in Victorian days. We traveled in standard premier and business premier and both were spot-on for class and comfort.”
On the ground in Paris
Once Stritt arrived in Paris, she says she met up with Susanne van Duijnen, with the Tours by Locals bike tour to explore the city on two wheels.
They cycled from the east to west sides of Paris, starting at Bastille and following the river, which is spotted by monuments and historical and architectural highlights, such Ile St. Louis, one of the two natural islands on the Seine.
From there, they rode to the Panthéon and Tour Montparnasse; Ile de la cité: Notre Dame, St. Chapelle, Conciergerie, Palais de Justice, St. Michel, the Latin Quarter and the Revolutionary Alley, where the guillotine was fabricated for France and tested on sheep. They also visited the former printery of “L’Ami du peuple,” and one of Stritt’s favorite shops, le Grimm art, which sells wax to seal envelopes like the kings did.
On the way, she says she was entranced by French street art by Clet Abraham, the street artist “Space Invader” and Jef Aerosol.
A sweet treat
The tour continues
After the ice cream break, Stritt continued cycling down the Seine to see Musée d’Orsay, and then headed onto a cyclist- and pedestrian-only road.
Where to stay
After six hours of cycling through the city of Paris, Stritt decided to crash and refresh at the luxurious Le Bristol Hotel.
After a bit of a nap and shower in the lovely room, Stritt says she ventured out to discover the Spa Le Bristol by La Prairie, which features La Prairie spa treatments. Along with the spa, you can enjoy the rooftop pool and relaxing balcony, overlooking the sights of Paris with the air scented with Rosemary — Stritt’s favorite herb.

Time to eat
After she relaxed at the spa, Stritt says she was ready for dinner at the renowned, Michelin-starred restaurant, 114 Faubourg. This gourmet restaurant organizes wine-appreciation evenings the first Monday of the month.
Back on the train
After being wined, dined and champanged, Stritt took a five-minute taxi back to the train station to head back on the Eurostar’s Premier Business class, which took her back to the St. Pancras Hotel. There, she was again greeted by her VIP Eurostar travel concierge and brought back to her Chambers Suite.
All in all, she says, it was the perfect, luxury European day trip.
