Pet-lovers: ‘Paws and Relax’ on British Air
Pets are good for our health. They can lower our heart rates, blood pressure and stress levels, according to a National Institutes of Health study.
That’s the science backing British Airways’ latest in-flight entertainment option, “Paws and Relax.” “Paws and Relax” is a new airline channel dedicated exclusively to videos of adorable puppies and kitties.
British Airways says fluffy animals can also improve travelers’ concentration and soothe the whole family. In fact, psychologist Richard Wiseman writes about the “power of cute” in his book, “59 Seconds.” He says a video of a cute animal can drop your heart rate and blood pressure and improve concentration in less than a minute.
Look forward to the likes of “Simon’s Cat,” an animation about a man and his cat; BBC’s “The Secret Life of Cats;” and “America’s Cutest Dog.”
Other in-flight fun
In addition to the new pet channel, British Airways offers travelers more than 130 movies, 650 TV shows, 550 musical albums and 200 radio shows on board. Also check out “Slow TV,” an almost meditative style of programming (imagine watching an unedited seven-hour train ride).
Beyond British Airways, Virgin American is known for its top-notch, in-flight entertainment. Enjoy on-demand wifi and personal outlets for your iPad or smartphone. “Red,” Virgin America’s entertainment system, is a touch-screen with direct access to new movies, live TV, music and even games.
