How to use Pinterest’s new ‘Place Pins’ to plan your next vacation
By Aimee Heckel
Pinterest has long been a popular planning platform — for weddings, parties, recipes. As increasingly more people began using Pinterest to plan (and daydream about) future vacations (to the tune of 1.5 million locations pinned every day), the website released a helpful tool.
Pinterest’s new Place Pins can help you plan your next big adventure.
Here’s how Place Pins work:
It’s simple. Make your own place board. Select “add a map” in the settings when you create or edit a board. Then pin as usual. Return back to the board and select the location for your pins. This will plot the pins on a map.
Here are some tips on using Place Pins on your next vacation:
- Access your Place Pins on your smartphone. Search by location, find somewhere that appeals to you, grab the address and phone number and go. This makes it easy to do some quick and impulsive planning — but it also allows you to collect your favorite destinations far in advance all in one place and bring it with you wherever you go.
- Share your board with friends and family who you’re traveling with so multiple people can contribute their ideas.
- Share your board with friends who have been where you’re going or who live there, and ask them to pin their favorite sites, restaurants, activities, cities, stores and places to stay.
- Browse other Place Pin boards. We love Fodor’s America’s Best Hot Chocolate board, and especially The Ultimate Paris board. Follow Fodor’s map for suggestions on places to grab a bite to eat, sip wine and explore; after all, this is what Fodor’s specializes in! Oh, and because it’s what we specialize in: Save money on your next Paris trip using these travel coupons.
