Plan a lucky casino vacation — that’s not in Vegas
By Aimee Heckel
Las Vegas is not the only destination if you want to tempt Lady Luck.
If the flashing lights and intensity of The Strip are too much for you, or if you’re just looking for some new scenery — and those famous too-good-to-be-true casino deals on alcohol, lodging and food — here are some of our favorite non-Vegas casino locations.
1. Central City and Black Hawk in Colorado. Perched in the stunning Colorado mountains, amid the rich mining history of this region, Central City and Black Hawk are worth the visit, even if you only play the penny slots. The architecture of the casinos here is much different than what you have come to expect in Vegas. Many streets are narrow and wind up the mountain, and the towns have a sweet, small-town charm — very unlike Vegas.
Central City boasts eight different casinos, with a free shuttle to nearby Black Hawk (in fact, you can barely distinguish the two cities form one another). Black Hawk is the bigger town, with 17 different casinos, some operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

2. The Florida Indian Casinos. Beyond Disney World and warm oceans, Florida’s casinos are a big destination draw for travelers. You can find casinos in cities from Tampa to Miami to Hollywood, Fla.
For example, Tampa is the home to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, which is a 90,000-square-foot casino that’s open 24 hours a day. Explore thousands of slot machines, 50 poker tables, eat at the three restaurants and stay in the hotel, with its pool, full-service spa (with body treatments, facials and massages) and hit the nightclub in the evenings. This hotel even has a babysitting option.

3. Visit the biggest casino in the United States — not in Vegas. The Grand Pequot Tower at Foxwoods, Mashantucket, Conn., is named one of the top casinos by TripAdvisor. The Foxwoods Resort Casino features six casinos, world-famous spas, golf, theaters, gourmet restaurants, shops — the list goes on.
