How to get a professional-looking ‘blow-out’ — at home
By Brittany Anas
When you walk out of the salon with fresh highlights or a new haircut, you’ve got a little extra pep in your step, yes? (Go ahead, girl, and check out your reflection or snap a quick Instagram selfie). There’s just something about the salon: From the way their conditioner smells (admit it, you can’t help pulling strands close to your nose for a quick sniff) to the perfect blow-outs that your stylist gives you, which miraculously last for days.
So, what’s a girl to do when she’s weeks in between hair appointments? Get a professional blow-out, right? Salons across the country are adding professional blow-dry sessions to their list of services and blow dry bars are popping up offering blow-outs only — no color, no cuts, just blow outs. Ah-ha. So this is what it feels like to be famous and pampered? Admittedly, the idea is a bit reminiscent of when our grandmothers would, like clockwork, show up to their once-a-week appointment to have their hair set. (You remember this is if you ever got caught in the tornado of air spray that cemented grams’ hair into place for a week).
Don’t have $35-$40 to shell out weekly for a blow-out? We hear you, and believe us when we say that you can get a salon-quality blow-out — at home. Thanks to Drybar, a leading blow-out salon that has made its products available at Sephora.
Blowout in a Box, $220 (a $265 value). With Christmas around the corner, you might want to drop Santa a few hints. Buttercup is the official dryer used by Drybar’s more than 1,500 stylists. It has been clinically tested and proven to dry hair faster than any other dryer available. (Read: You can sleep in a little longer in the morning). It also has a nano bead technology that eliminates frizz and adds shine. The box set comes with a medium brush, as well as blowout shampoo, weightless conditioner, a heat protector, frizz fighter and a shine cream.
Hold me Hair Clips, $16. The secret to a great blow-out is going section by section. Start at the roots for greater volume. These alligator jaw clips will help you split your locks up into sections.
