Revealed: the cheapest store for back-to-school supplies
By Aimee Heckel
No more comparison shopping and bargain hunting necessary. No more hauling your screaming kids from store to store to save a little money here and there.
The Consumer Reports and Bloomberg recently announced the official cheapest store to buy your back-to-school supplies.
Can you guess which store wins this coveted title? (Suspense, suspense, suspense.)
Walmart, of course.
Walmart is also the home to the People of Walmart (so good/so bad), and its massive size can make it a major time suck. That’s why shopping Walmart’s website is the way to go; you get to score the best deals, but save time (although you do miss out on the people-watching).
You can also save even more money on Walmart online than you could save in person, when you take advantage of online coupons. Here, you can find more than 50 Walmart online coupons, such as free shipping to your house. Plus, when you shop through ShopAtHome.com, you can an automatic 3 percent Cash Back. It’s basically a reward for not going into the store.
Money-saving tip: Always check Walmart’s Daily Deal online. Here, you can get already cheap items marked down even more. For example, a Texas Instruments TI-30Xa calculator (doesn’t every school list require one of these?), originally $12.93, marked down more than 50 percent to just $5.82. But act fast, because they only last (you guessed it) a day.
For older kids, we love Walmart’s Back To College page, where you can find desks, laptops, dorm decor, books — everything. You can even make your own custom college checklist, via Walmart’s webpage.
