Scrubologists: The latest on-trend spa necessity
By Aimee Heckel
You’ve heard of mixologists: mixmasters who specialize in creating the perfect cocktail.
Along those same lines — but without the hangover — the latest spa trend is the scrubologist, according to Ava Roxanne Stritt, the Spa Travel Gal.
Stritt runs the popular website Spatravelgal.com. Every month, she’s in contact with hundreds of leading spas around the world. Just a few weeks ago, she says she noticed something new and exciting that caught her eye.
The award-winning, full-service Spa at Harbor Beach Marriott Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., introduced the art of the ultimate personalized body scrub option. At the Salt of the Sea Scrub Bar, you can get a personal consultation with their scrubologist, who will then whip up, just for you, the perfect body scrub blend.
Combine salts, exfoliants, herbs, oils and scents of your preference for a hands-on customized experience, Stritt says. Ingredients include pure Himalayan salts, marine algae salt, dead sea salt, organic sugar, green tea leaves, lavender, coconut oil — the list goes on. Combine these creations with an exfoliating scrub treatment, and take your product to go.
The Scrubology experience costs $25 to-go or $15 if you use it with a service. (Tip: Try the Zen nail services.)
“Everything’s about personalization now at luxury hotels. Everyone wants to think their luxury experience is unique,” Stritt sasy. “It’s not good enough to just stay at the Ritz; you want a stay that is personalized to you — genuine and real.”
Personalization from knowing which cocktail you prefer, down to which body scrub ingredients will best soothe your skin make us all eager for a spa vacation package.
“There’s nothing more personal than someone helping create something they’re going to scrub all over your body,” Stritt says.
The Fort Lauderdale Marriott boasts a 22,000-square-foot, full-service spa.
Looking for a personalized body scrub — but can’t make it to Florida?
- Visit the Etsy shop for OneEarthSkincare. You pick the ingredients (from organic oats, to grapeseed oil and a variety of essential oils) for these 6-ounce jars.
- Doctor Sweet Tooth also sells personalized, handmade sugar body scrubs for $18. Pick your own scent and consistency. These scrubs are paraben free and have no added colors.
- We also love the Coco-Zen Chocolate Sal Scrub body scrub set at Four Green Steps for $40. Pick between delicious scents, like chocolate brownies, and indulge your body in dead sea salts that remove toxins from the body and relax sore muscles. The trick here: fair-trade cocoa. Combine with chocolate soap and chocolate lotion and you’ll feel as sweet as you’ll smell.
