September style: Denim on denim, ‘popcorn stitching’ and sweater T-shirts
By Brittany Anas
Remember back-to-school time when you were a kid? Fresh notebooks symbolized a blank slate and the score of new school clothes made for fun new outfits. Every fall, we start to get nostalgic and once again covet those preppy prints and clothes that make us so excited we want to set them out the night before.
September is the perfect time to start shopping for cozy knits and light, billowy blouses that are made for crisp autumn days. We’ve done some trend spotting over at the Loft, where you’ll find some good sales plus earn 3 percent Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com. We love the Loft for its versatility — classic pieces tailor made for the office, and relaxed shirts and skirts perfect for weekends.
Denim-on-denim: Every have those days where you stand in front of your closet and dramatically proclaim “I have nothing to wear.” For a no-brainer, perfectly chic outfit to solve, give the denim-on-denim look a try. The key to wearing it (and this is important) is to make sure that the denims are in different shades — i.e. light on top, darker on the bottom. We’re loving this chambray top from Loft that can be paired with your fave jeans. Chambray — might we add — is a perfect piece to transition you from summer to fall because it’s lightweight, yet long sleeved.
Floral pencil skirt: Floral + damask in a rich autumn palette makes this pencil skirt an ideal statement piece. It’s modern cut plays against it’s almost-vintage pattern, which makes it especially interesting.
Plaid pants: Plaid has returned for fall 2013 in full force. The classic, country club print has hijacked the runways and we couldn’t be more excited because it’s such a timeless trend. We view plaid purchases as “investments” since we know it will remain in style. These Marisa plaid pants come in a rich green and blue and hit right at the ankle.
‘Popcorn’ stitch: Stripes and mini polka dots collide for a sweet combination on this “popcorn stitch” sweater. The stripes on this black-and-white sweater get a bit of texture with iddy-biddy dots.
Sweater Tee: When it’s not quite cool enough yet for a full-fledge sweater, a softer and lighter sweater tee with regal purple stripes fits the bill.
