While Camden Sleeps blogger makes magic out of nap time
Kara Muehlmann is a stay-at-home mom who started While Camden Sleeps to document all of her hobbies and crafts (while her son naps). Kara is a creative mastermind when it comes to her sewing projects. And she refashions clothing from old and outdated to cute and stylish. She loves a good deal and is a bargain hunter extraordinaire. Meet Kara …
Where I’m based: Provo, Utah
How long I’ve been blogging: I’ve been blogging for about a year. I started soon after having my son, Camden. I discovered I had a ton of free time while he took his many naps so I used that time to do what I love — craft!
Blog/business basics: Most of my posts are “refashions” where I take old, outdated clothes, and alter them to be cute again. I also have some DIY things, including highlighting hair at home — which I have been doing for years.
What do you enjoy most about blogging? It motivates me! Because I love sharing what I create, blogging motivates me to create more, and in turn, I think it helps motivate others to do the same.
Other blogs I love: Merrick’s Art, Hello Fab Blog and Mask Cara
Guilty pleasure: I’m a bit of a candy hoarder. It’s really a problem. You know something is wrong when you try to hide candy from your family and you cover the wrappers you throw away with other trash.
Fav Stores:Thrifting first and foremost! Kohl’s, T.J. Maxx , Forever 21 and Burlington Coat Factory.
Last thing I bought: I picked up some diapers for my son.
What’s the best deal you’ve ever gotten? My husband is definitely the best deal I’ve ever gotten. He’s quite the catch.
What inspired you to start sewing? My mom taught me when I was really young. She always sewed while we were growing up; her love of it was contagious and I caught it.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve sewn so far? That’s a hard question. The thing that I’ve sewn and worn the most is definitely the striped skirt I made from my husband’s old polos.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten at a garage sale? When I was 10, I got a white water raft with paddles at a garage sale for $5. It had a hole, but was easy to patch. I always brought it to my grandma’s swimming pool and paddled around. It was silly, but really fun.
