Shady lady: Shop the best sunglasses for your face shape

Trending this summer in the sunglasses section of your fave store are cat eyes, round frames and multi-colored lenses on aviators. A good pair of sunnies not only add a finished look to any outfit, but they also protect our peepers from the sun and keep us from squinting (read: fewer wrinkles in the forehead region). But what pair plays best with the unique angles and shape of your face?
Here’s a few shopping tips to keep in mind when you’re peeping out sunglasses so that you find the most flattering frames for your face.
- For round faces: If you’ve got a round face like celebs Mila Kunis, Emma Stone or Kelly Clarkson, rectangular frames look great on you since they provide a balance. You can also get in on the geometric sunglasses that are especially trend this season. The 60’s-inspired cat eyes also play well on round faces. Our pick: These Saint Laurent Oversized Sunglasses in purple from Nordstrom. (Shopping tip: The semi-annual sale is happening now at Nordstrom. Save even more with 15 percent Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com).
- For square faces: Strong features — like defined jaw lines and prominent cheekbones — differentiate a square face from a round face. (Think of celebs like Demi Moore, Leighton Meester and Rosario Dawson). Wayfarers are the way to go for square faces. Those with a square facial structure can also get away with the round frames. Our picks: These Apt. 9 Wayfarer Sunglasses in tortoise from Kohl’s (on sale for $12.99) or these modern round sunglasses from Forever 21 ($5.80).
- For heart-shaped faces: A narrow jawline and chin with a wider forehead define a heart-shaped face. If you and Reese Witherspoon or the Olsen twins have similar facial features, you can get away rocking a bold cat eye with accentuated wings. Our pick: Wildfox ‘La Femme Deluxe’ 55mm Sunglasses with smoky, gradient lenses, on sale at the Nordstrom semi-annual sale for $118.90.
- For oval faces: An oval face can get away with just about any style of sunglasses (same goes for haircuts). Lucky! Wondering if you’ve got an oval face? Take a look at stars like Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessical Biel. Those with oval faces have perfect proportions and smooth jawlines. Our pick: Ray-Ban ‘New Classic’ Aviator sunglasses with colored mirroring from Nordstrom for $170.
