The Rich Life (On a Budget) blogger knows when to save – and splurge
Even the name of Adrienne Shubin’s blog is enticing: The Rich Life (on a budget). And the moment you step into her world, she doesn’t let you down. With the sophistication of the ladies of Downton, the cool of Don Draper and the grace of Audrey Hepburn, Shubin’s classic style is almost as enviable as her optimistic disposition on life. Meet the woman who understands value and knows the good things in life are priceless.
Where I’m based: I am fortunate enough to call California’s Sonoma Valley my home.
How long I’ve been blogging: Next month, I will have been blogging for three years.
Blog basics: My blog is about fashion, beauty, travel, wine country living and everything that makes my life rich. I enjoy sharing ideas for living richly with my readers, whether they are on a budget or not.
Other blogs I love: I have a long list of blogs I love for a variety of reasons but I’ll only name a few of my not-to-miss blogs: Skimbaco Lifestyle – which I happen to also write for, Une Femme d’un Certain Age and Fabulous After 40.
Guilty pleasure: A glass of French champagne, fresh strawberries and a flaky croissant for breakfast every now and then on special occasions.
Last thing I bought: A fantastic pair of Lucky Brand black sandals from Zappos.com with two straps that wrap around my ankle and a short chunky heel.
What are your favorite places to shop? I love a good thrift shop. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the great deals found in secondhand shops. For new items, I like Nordstrom. They carry great styles, high quality brands and have excellent customer service.
Where have you found a fantastic deal? I have found many fantastic deals; it’s hard to choose! Most recently, I found a bronze leather bomber jacket for $6 at Goodwill and a pair of Michael Kors sandals for $49 (regularly $100) at T.J. Maxx.
What’s your definition for living a rich life on a budget? I believe a rich life does not come from amassing large sums of money but by being grateful for what you have, living a balanced life and always striving to act, look, feel and think your very best.
What’s the most beloved possession in your closet? That would have to be my cognac Mulberry Bayswater satchel, handed down to me by a dear friend a few months ago. Not only is it classic, stylish and beautiful, but it also reminds me of the special friendship I have with her.
Where do you get your style inspiration? I get most of my style inspiration from other bloggers and from Pinterest. Emmanuelle Alt, the editor of French Vogue, is my favorite style influencer. I make a point of searching for her looks online and often attempt to create my own version of her effortlessly chic looks.
Do you ever splurge? Yes! I do splurge, but I am smart about it. I splurge on items I know will serve me well for a long time. European bras, a quality handbag, a classic coat and a great pair of sunglasses are a few of things I have no qualms paying top dollar for.
