Do you want to build a snowman? Here’s help
Thanks to Frozen’s Olaf, we think it’s safe to say that snowmen have reached celebrity status. (Ahem, not to sound like a name dropper, but we thought they were cool—in every sense of the word—since we were first introduced to Frosty, you know, the jolly happy soul with a corncob pipe and button nose).
If your kids are starting to get stir-crazy this winter break, and you’ve got some white stuff accumulated in your yard, head on outdoors for some good ol’ fashion snowman-making.
However, as charming as your children’s chilly creations are, we totally don’t blame you if you don’t want your Burberry scarf warming the snowman’s neck or if you actually need those carrots stashed in the crisper for a stew. S’now problem at all! Leave it to snowmen-making kits.
These fun kits and crafty supplies will help your kids dress up their snowman so that he is as cute as the button on his nose. (Snow not included!) Here are three to try:
A family affair
The Snowman Family Kit, $34.95 at L.L. Bean, is like a Mr. Potato Head for snowmen (and snow ladies and snow pets). The kit contains one pair of glasses, three different carrot noses, a smiling mouth, two unique pairs of eyes, a pair of antlers, six black “coal pieces” and nine assorted buttons. All of the decorative pieces are made out of solid wood and have wooden dowels on the back that make it easy to push them into the snow. The kit also comes in a cloth bag for storage.
Taking it back old school
This retro-inspired Wembley Snowman Kit, $20 from Kohl’s, will have your snowman looking like it belongs in a Norman Rockwell painting. The 12-piece set includes two eyes, a carrot nose, five mouth pegs, pipe and three buttons. For more winter fun, we also spotted the Ideal Sno-Paint Sno-Art Kit, $22.99 from Kohl’s, that lets kids imprint snow molds of a snowman and a star and then color them in with Sno Crayon spray bottles.
For a near double of Frosty, we favor the My Very Own Snowman Kit, $6.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond. The kit comes with a black felt snowman hat with anchors to keep it put, plastic “coal” eyes, five plastic mouthpieces, a carrot nose, three large black buttons and a red felt scarf with fringe.
