It might seem a beach vacation and spa excursion — with an emphasis on skincare and overall health — would contradict one another. But they don’t have to.
Every month, we feature special spa travel picks from the
Spa Travel Gal, Ava Roxanne Stritt. For August, she is loving the “sun survival lounge” at the
Sense Beach House in Miami Beach, Fla.

“I adore the idea that if a hotel does not have a spa, they still care about your relaxation and wellness. That is what the Sense Beach House did,” Stritt says. “They so care about your wellness, right down to your basic survival, that they have created a sun survival lounge.”
She likens it to a VIP lounge area, like at the well known
Aruba Marriott H2Oasis pool, but with a distinct vision of aiding in your relaxation, and refreshing your skin after being in the sun all day.
Travelers love South Beach for its white sand and hot sun, “but they also know that nothing feels (or looks) worse that a bright red burn after a day of fun in the sun,” the hotel says.
Just steps from the sand, guests can undo the sun’s doing at the free sun survival lounge, located on the rooftop of the hotel near the “oasis pool.” Relax in the shade, munch on fruit, slather your skin with cooling lotions and enjoy coconut water and melon juice.
Coconut water is the latest health crazy, WebMD writes, because it’s low-cal, fat-free, is hydrating and is packed with potassium. Even if you don’t have access to a sun survival lounge, you can pick up a
17 pack of Vita Coco coconut water at Walmart for $30. Pair with 2 percent Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com and a long list of
Walmart coupons and you can save big on “Mother Nature’s sports drink.”
