Stop chapped lips with these easy tips
Winter’s freezing temps and drying winds can really do a number on your skin, especially when it comes to your lips, which are harder to shield from the elements. However, there is hope! You don’t have to suffer from dry, chapped lips—just follow a few simple tips:
1. Exfoliate. You know that exfoliating helps keep the soles of your feet soft and your elbows and knees, too. The same is true for your lips, so pick up this polish infused with brown sugar to keep your pout soft and smooth. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, $22.50, Sephora.com
2. Hydrate. With heaters cranked at full blast, the air around you is bound to be dry, so remedy the situation with a humidifier. The first place you should add one? Your bedroom. If you happen to sleep with your mouth open, your lips are going to dry out faster. Check out this rain drop-shaped humidifier that comes in nine colors to help negate some of that damage. Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidfier, $44.99, Target.com
3. Moisturize. Speaking of sleeping, your body does a lot of repair work at night, so this is the perfect time to get some extra moisture locked into your lips. This lip repair is fragrance free and preservative free, making it the perfect product to add to your bedtime routine. Auquaphor Lip Repair, Immediate Relief, $3.43, Drugstore.com
4. Protect. Clouds in the sky or snow on the ground are not reasons to forgo the sunscreen, including on your lips. Keep this SPF 30 balm on hand at all times to save your pucker from the sun’s harmful rays. NIVEA A Kiss of Protection Sun Protection Lip Care, SPF 30, $2.47, Walmart.com
5. Stop. It’s easier said than done, but seriously, STOP licking your lips. You may think you’re adding moisture to your lips, but in fact you’re just drying them out. There’s no product to help end this vicious cycle, so focus on being cognizant of this habit and soon you’ll be able to break it! By the way, if you’re not about to go out without some color on your lips, try this tinted balm with shea butter:
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, $6.99, Ulta.com.
And, finally, to make sure your guy’s lips are kissable too, pick up this SPF 25 balm: Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25, $7.50, Sephora.com
