June 2013 trend: Add a little summer to your hair with a floral crown
Summer 2013 is bringing out the inner flower child in us. From large, bold and colorful blossoms that adorn crowns to dainty daisy headbands, we’re spotting lots of pretty gardens in ladies’ locks this summer that elicit a Woodstock-like charm.
The organic crowns are being worn at weddings to complement bouquets. Homemade hair bouquets that you can customize are popping up all over Etsy. And, the ladies at Kim Kardashian’s baby shower were spotted wearing romantic white and green floral headbands.
Flowery headbands are a quintessential, bohemian summer style that can instantly add interest to a T-shirt-and-denim shorts outfit. The whimsical flowers can be counted on to give that extra summer oompf to your style.
Here’s how you can give your hair some flower power this summer:
Make your own floral crown: A girl named James over at Bleubird Vintage has a darling do-it-yourself tutorial detailing how to make a floral crown with a few craft-store supplies. You just need some floral tape, silk flowers, pliers and floral wire and you’re ready to go. (Green thumb not required). James, from Nashville, Tenn., says the project took her about 40 minutes from start to finish. We love the bright cheerful colors — pinks, blues and yellow hues– she chose and how she instantaneously brightened up a gray-and-white outfit with her floral creation. Buy a floral heaband: A palette of peach, green and white come together beautifully in a TopShop headband that blends daisies and roses for a bold statement. (Nordstrom, $40). Want to embrace the trend, but a bit more subtly? Check out this candy-striped headband with flower charms attached that is on sale for $9.99 at Urban Outfitters.
Score a homemade headband: Get ready for cute overload at the ManniaTitta shop on Etsy. From whimsical customized crowns for little girls (perfect for portraits or walking the aisle as a flower girl) to a wreath garland headpiece adorned with pink berries and a fuchsia butterfly, this shop re-creates floral crowns in a magical way.
