Here’s your game plan for a winning Super Bowl party look
A trifecta of football, friends and food, the Super Bowl is the epitome of “Sunday Funday.” Of course, some of you might be wondering what channel the Puppy Bowl is on—and we can respect that, too. (Psst, it’s Animal Planet).
Whether you’re a die-hard football fan or you’re game for a Super Bowl party simply because you love guac and a good halftime show, we’ve got outfit ideas to help you tackle your party look.
So, go ahead and RSVP “yes” to that Super Bowl party invite (the Seattle Seahawks are playing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX at 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 1 on NBC).
And while you’re busy researching the science of under-inflation in footballs so that you can weigh in on the Deflate-gate discussion, leave the outfit planning to us. Set down the face paint and look cute—not crazy—with these winning outfits.
You’re a “12th (Wo)Man” for the Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks fans are known for being loud. So loud, in fact, they registered a decibel reading of 137.6, the second loudest recording in the world, on Dec. 2, 2013, at CenturyLink Field, against the New Orleans Saints. If you’re a die-hard Seahawks fan, leave your bullhorn at home, but still make a strong statement with a Seattle V-neck T-shirt, $28 at Macy’s, paired with your favorite pair of jeans.
Or, for an outfit that is less literal, but still shows your team spirit, wear a dutch blue T-shirt dress, $49.95 from Gap (above), that has a sporty look with its jersey material. To score an extra point, layer on a pair of “Seattle 12th Man” socks, $13.95 at Nordstrom (above), either scrunched over leggings a la the ’80s or on your bare legs.
Tom Brady is your hero
The New England Patriots have made it to the Super Bowl five times since 2002, taking home a Lombardi trophy on three of those occasions. So, it’s safe to assume the loyal Pats fan already has lots of red and blue in her closet. It’s time to accessorize, then!
Add some extra luck to your outfit and charm fellow fans with an Alex and Ani New England Patriots bangle, $32 at Nordstrom (above). Or, top off your look by supporting Brady and the boys in a classic Legacy cap, $20 at Nordstrom, fronted with a vintage Patriots logo. Another option? Accessorize with a red or blue crossbody bag. We’re loving the faux-leather bags, $24.94, in “bluetiful” and “saucy red” from Old Navy.
Your team didn’t make it to the Super Bowl
Either your team didn’t make it to the big game (in the words of Ben Sherman, “you mad, bro?”) or, well, you don’t have a team, per se, because, um, how many periods are there in football, again? Let Super Bowl Sunday be your day to rock a neutral sporty or relaxed look.
We love the lace-trimmed T-shirt, $55 from J.Crew, or the sleeve-striped varsity T-shirts, $16.94 at Old Navy. Pair either style with your fave denim or black pants and cheer for whichever team is winning.
