Sweater trends to warm up to this fall
We’ve never been so excited to swap out our sundresses for sweaters. And forget basic beige knits. This season’s sweaters are real stunners—you’ll see dramatic new lengths, unexpected accents and detailing as well as fun, bold prints.
Here are a few sweater trends worth noting this season. Go ahead, introduce them to your trusty basics and they’ll live in harmony in your cool-weather wardrobe rotation.
Knotted sweater dresses: The fashion week runways in Milan and New York have hinted at the next big trends, including knotted, shirred details on dresses. Get in on the look stat, with this Knotted Sweater Dress, $19.90 at Forever 21. (Bonus style points for the subtle cut-outs near the waist).
Bejeweled details: We love a sparkly broach or a jeweled statement necklace to elevate an everyday outfit. Even better? Built-in jewels! A gorgeous gray merino wool sweater from The Loft gets gussied up with jewels on the collar. Hint: It also pairs well with plaid.
Super-long cardigans: This has got to be the most comfortable trend ever: extra-long cardigans to bundle up in. This season has gone to new lengths with cardis hitting mid-calf and taking on a flowy silhouette. Free People nails it with the grey-striped Merci cardigan, available at Nordstrom.
Baseball sweaters: Rock a tomboy style with these two-toned baseball sweaters from Old Navy. We love them layered over a plaid button up and paired with jeans for an easy, comfy weekend look.
Ruffled flounces: Anthropologie is our go-to shop for unique takes on trends. We’re enamored by the ruffled flounce on this skirted pullover. Comes in ivory or gray. For pattern play, check out the Checkmate Pullover.
Asymmetrical cuts: Look for fun new cuts and zipper accents on sweaters this season. Both trends are combined on this Pinstripe zip sweater from J.Crew. The retailer has this to say about the sweater: “We gave this wool pullover pinstripes and asymmetrical zips at the neck and the hip—because we firmly believe things look just right when something’s a little off. Try them unzipped and let a pop of color peek through.”
