The top U.S. travel destination for 2013
By Aimee Markwardt
If you make one travel-related New Year’s resolution for 2013, put Louisville, Kentucky, at the top of your checklist.
Lonely Planet recently released its top 10 travel destinations for 2013, and this charming southern town swept up the top honors – with little debate from the crew of voting editors and authors.
The reason: It’s more than just a horse race. Sure, the Kentucky Derby is a bucket-list experience not to miss, whether you love horses, hats or history. But Louisville is rich with culture, fine dining, exquisite shopping and a bustling bourbon scene. Some call the city the “next Portland” of America.
