Tips, ideas and ways to save money on spring break vacation
As soon as you catch your breath from the holidays, it’s time to roll again. Spring break starts in some schools as early as mid-February.
Some consider spring break an American student rite of passage — or at the very least, a chance to relax and have fun before the crushing end-of-year finals.
If your friends haven’t already picked a destination, here are a few ideas — and some great deals. Because let’s be honest; you’ve been eating Ramen Noodles for three years straight, and the college loans aren’t getting smaller. But no stress. You can still have an incredible vacation, without subleasing your walk-in closet to someone on Craigslist.
Tip: Not sure when your school’s spring break is (or need to coordinate with a cross-country friend)? Initia Tours has a list of spring break dates by school.
Panama City Beach, in the beautiful Florida panhandle, is a popular college hotspot — with busy beaches, serious nightclubs and organized events (don’t be surprised if you see MTV filming). Studentbreaks.com offers a variety of Panama Beach specials, such as a four-star beachfront condo (with 99 cent beers all day every day, but we’re not condoning anything!). For example, travel with a group of friends and pay less. Book a room for seven at from March 4-9 for about $333 per person.
Looking for something that belongs on MTV’s “Cribs?” How about a six-bedroom luxury beachfront mansion? Split it with 10 friends for just over $1,000 per person.
Seem a little (or lot) beyond your price range? Check Hotels.com for low prices, and save more by checking the deals and coupons.
South Padre Island, on the southern tip of Texas, has been a top spring break spot for years. Enjoy powdery beaches and plenty of entertainment. Tip: Book lodging on the south end of the island to be in the heart of the action.
Check out Inertia Tours’ Padre spring break deals, like a beachfront condo near the Coke Beach Stage, the heart of the entertainment action, or find hotels priced starting at $250 per person — meals included.
Looking to travel internationally? Cancun, Mexico, is always a popular spring break destination. The weather is perfect, the water is stunning, the clubs are wild, the shopping is great and you can find exquisite hotels for unbeatable rates.
Tip: If booking through Inertia Tours, consider adding a Red Carpet VIP Party Package, which includes VIP entrance (and cover) to hot clubs and a one-night Caribbean cruise.
