Travel in 2014: Film festival hopping
By Aimee Heckel
You’ve heard of music groupies. How about film fans?
If you want to be right in the heart of the action this year, consider planning your travels around some of the nation’s most exciting film festivals.
Film festivals are not only a way to visit new cities and get in on some of the hottest, new films before they hit the mainstream, but they are often educational, with talkbacks and opportunities to meet filmmakers face to face. Many film fests also organize parties, dinners and concerts, in conjunction with the screenings.
Plus, with an action-packed agenda, you never have to plan your own itinerary, and you always know you’ll be entertained to the max.
Here are some of our favorite film festivals to follow in 2014.
When: March 28-April 6
Highlights: This event draws more than 25,000 people and some of the greatest films, because it’s an Academy Award-qualifying event and long-running. You can find all genres of film here — even the best LGBTQ film, and Puppetry is even a separate category here.
