TurboTax now offering free federal, state e-filing on simple returns
On the lookout for another way to save on your taxes this year? How about the ability to file them for free?
TurboTax has announced that, starting Jan. 9, Americans filing simple returns—both federal 1040A or 1040EZ—as well as state returns, may do so for free for the first time with the TurboTax Federal Free Edition. Free, as in $0 for federal, state and the filing service.
Additionally, when you use TurboTax, you won’t pay extra to comply with new health care laws or to claim earned income tax credit.
According to a release from the leading tax preparation service, TurboTax Absolute Zero is especially vital for the 60 percent of taxpayers with simple returns who file early in the year to get their tax refund as quickly as possible.
“We know you work hard for your money,” Sasan Goodarzi, general manager of Intuit’s Consumer Tax Group, says in the release. “And we know how urgent and important it is to get every dollar you deserve,” said . “That’s why we’re offering totally free filing to millions of Americans. We’ve shifted the burden of tax preparation from your shoulders to ours, so you can catch a much-needed break. You can be sure that TurboTax is standing firmly on your side.”
Ready to file? The IRS will begin processing e-filed returns on Jan. 20.
