Add uniqueness to your home’s décor with these easy, affordable ideas

It might be that your passion is the dog or cat who greets you at the door after work every day. Or perhaps your friends poke a bit of fun at you because of your endless fascination for all things from a certain era.
Whatever your passion, be sure it’s reflected in your home’s décor.
Chrissy Madison, spokeswoman for Pier 1 Imports, suggests allowing your home to spotlight the things you hold dear.
“To create a unique and personal space, find something that speaks to you, because your home should be a reflection of who you are and what you love,” she says. “When you find something you love, buy it. You might not know exactly where to put it or how you’ll use it, but if it screams your name, you’re bound to find the perfect place in your home for it.”
Set aside those catalogs, she says, and let your own tastes take over that décor.
“Feel confident in creating a home that’s unique to you and reflects styles that you love by adding pieces that speak to you over time.”
Like Madison, Michele Loeper, spokeswoman for Ten Thousand Villages, suggests those with a passion for travel allow that to touch their home décor.
“Many of us would love to travel the world,” Loeper says. “But while there are few things more exciting than experiencing a new culture or landscape, global travel is not always feasible. Fortunately, there are ways to express your love of travel and passion for exotic far-away places without ever leaving your couch.”
She suggests such items as singing bowls from Nepal or hand-woven baskets from Bangladesh to add a worldly touch to the home.
“On a modest budget, you can easily add some global charm and intrigue to your home decor.”
