Walking in Memphis in High Heels: Classic taste with a little edge
Laura Boswell is the stylish lady behind Walking in Memphis in High Heels. Not only is she a pro at mixing and matching prints, she is a techie on her way to getting her MBA. With a girly-girl style and a love for classics, we are excited her blog is now on our radar. Meet Laura …
Where I’m based: Memphis, Tenn.
How long I’ve been blogging: Seven months
Blog/business basics: My blog mainly focuses on fashion, but I also post a little about my day-to-day life including fitness, health and beauty.
Other blogs I love: Some of my favorite blogs are Pink Peonies and The Other Side of Gray mainly because we have similar taste in fashion.
Guilty pleasure: My guilty pleasure is chocolate covered strawberries. Luckily, I make them with dark chocolate so they’re not quite as guilty, but I could eat almost the entire batch by myself!
Last thing I bought: I finally bought my first iPad for my thirtieth birthday. I can’t wait to get it in the mail! I’m a little late to the iPad game.
Fav stores: J. Crew, Madewell, Anthropologie, BCBG, Coach and Urban Philosophy. I like so many different styles, and I love to mix girlier pieces with edgier pieces.
What’s your favorite item in your closet? This is a tough one because I love so many pieces in my closet. If I had to pick one favorite item in my closet right now, I would have to pick my Trina Turk floral silk dress. It is so soft, flattering and comfortable. I catch myself wanting to wear it all the time, and even throw it on over my bikini as a cover-up.
Are you the most fashionable student in your grad school MBA program? Haha, I don’t really know about all that. That would be nice, but I doubt it. I love getting fashion inspiration from people I see everyday, including fellow students.
What trend have you tried that you later realized didn’t work for you? Hmm, a couple that I just recently wore (while trying to step outside the box). The turban or headband look is not me, and neither is the head to toe edgy look. I just tend to gravitate towards more dressy or girly pieces, and trying to dress too edgy makes me feel like I’m not “me”. The most important thing to me is being comfortable in my skin and my clothing.
What holiday do you like to dress up for most? My favorite holiday is Christmas, and it’s also my favorite one to dress up for. It’s one of the few where my husband will actually dress up too and take pictures with me, which makes it even nicer.
What do you believe is worth splurging on? Classic nice work pieces. For instance, I probably have about 15 silk blouses. I have one in almost every color. They’re a little pricier, but they can be dressed up or down. I can wear them to work, to church and even out with my husband. They will never go out of style, and who doesn’t like the feel of silk?
