Walmart adds Black Friday “Early Bird Online Specials”

Who needs Black Friday?
Apparently not Walmart.
The retail giant is already launching holiday shopping promotions in hopes of luring shoppers early with a shortened shopping season on tap. With Thanksgiving’s late arrival on Nov. 28, there are six less shopping days between the holiday and Christmas than last year.
Electronics are always hot for Christmas gifts and Walmart didn’t shy away from that fact with what it’s calling “Early Bird Online Specials.” More than 350 deals are available online at walmart.com.
Included in those deals are:
Laptop bundles with a printer and case for $301. That equates to a savings of 25 percent.
A 60-inch refurbished Vizio HDTV for $799, a 20 percent discount.
A Dyson bagless vacuum for $339. That’s 43 percent off the usual price of $599.
There are other discounts listed in Walmart’s “Early Bird Online Specials”, as well. The retail giant is “rolling back” prices on Apple products, Disney merchandise, video games, clothing and household products.
Joel Anderson, president and CEO of Walmart.com, described the launching of the early deals as a reaction to shoppers’ tendencies.
“We know that our customers start shopping for the holidays on Nov. 1 because historically our traffic spikes the day after Halloween,” Anderson said in a press release Friday. “Customers want to relax with friends and family during the holidays, and with our early deals we are helping them make the most of their time and helping them stretch their dollars further.”
In addition to the discounted prices, Walmart is throwing in free shipping on orders over $50 on nearly 99 percent of Walmart.com items. The company has also tripled the number of items customers can order online and pick up in-store the same day to 70,000, according to a press release from Walmart.
