Clothes Call: What to wear to Thanksgiving dinner
Your Thanksgiving game plan: Gobble till you wobble, take a tryptophan-induced nap and repeat. (Hopefully there’s some football-watching and pumpkin pie-eating plans in the mix, too). While you’re planning the menu for the big family feast or baking your famous pies to bring to a “friendsgiving,” leave the outfit-planning to us. We got your back (and waist line).
Turkey trousers
Let’s go ahead and add elastic pants to the long list of things we’re thankful for this year. To be more specific, make that stylish elastic pants that we affectionately refer to as our turkey trousers. (Think: Drapey pants or luxe joggers made of rich fabrics like merino wool). A couple of our favorites: The blurred ikat drapey pant, $110 at J. Crew, or the satin side-tie pant $225, also at J. Crew. Dress up your relaxed pants with a jeweled-embellished top or sweater that is equally as comfortable, but will add a luxe touch. We’re loving the jeweled sequin T-shirt from Ann Taylor Loft, $49.50, especially in “whisper white.”
Styling tip: To balance out looser-fitting pants, look for a more structured, fitting top. To dress this look up more for a fancy feast, layer on a long, black blazer.
Empire dresses
We favor empire waistline dresses over sheath or bodycon dresses for Thanksgiving as they reign when it comes to comfort. We’re loving mixed textures and fabrics this season. This Weston Wear Galina print dress, $158 at Anthropologie.com, has a flared skirt, lace bodice and a gorgeous mix of autumnal hues on the bodice. Already have a dress you love, but want to dress it up more for the holidays? We’re loving the jeweled, snap belts at Anthropologie, like this Jeweled Fans stretch belt, $49.50.
Styling tip: Warm this dress up with your favorite cozy cardigan and some thick tights.
Autumnal tones
Before we bid adieu to autumn and welcome the bright reds and greens of the holiday season, let’s get a final serving of our favorite fall tones. For a cozy outfit idea (that works for Thanksgiving or any time of year), try a sweater dress-tights-and-boots combo. We’re loving the autumnal red marled cowl neck sweater dress from Old Navy, $34.94. Pair it with the Madden Girl Motorrr Bootie from DSW, $59.95, for a fun pop of plaid.
Styling tip: Remix your sweater dress by adding a belt and pairing with leatherette leggings and tall black boots for a night out with your girlfriends.
