Winter’s most flattering jackets
By Brittany Anas
A warm winter jacket need not translate to a snowman silhouette. Warmth + comfort + flattering is an achievable winter hat trick.
Look for jackets that have some tailoring to show that even underneath your coat, and underneath your sweater, and underneath your plaid button up and underneath your thermal shirt — you have some shape.
While you’re shopping, keep versatility in mind. What color will get along best with your winter wardrobe? It’s okay to think outside of the neutral box. A jolt of bright blues or poppy orange can brighten up your winter look.
When you’re shopping, think about buying up a size so that you can wear your jacket over a sweater. You don’t want the strained-button look when you try to put on a jacket over those thicker winter wear.
If you’re busty, shop for jackets that have details toward the bottom — like ruffles or oversized pockets or flares. We love this ruffled camel-color coat from Target that plays on the peplum trend and is on sale for $27.98. We also like the tiered pleats on this blue wool blend jacket from Old Navy, which is on sale for $34.97.
If you’ve got a baby bump, a cape jacket — like this green wool-blend jacket from Old Navy — will help show it off while giving you a classic, warm look. Old Navy capes are also in black and a coral-and-tan stripe, on sale for $29.97.
If you want to create some curves, go with a fit and flare coat. We love the sophisticated look of this vibrant red fit-and-flare jacket from Asos, that has military-style buttons on the chest and an exaggerated skirt that starts near the hip. The jacket is $123.13 and comes in black, too.
If you want a statement jacket to wear out to the theater or downtown on cold nights, let us introduce you to this Harlow Fur Coat from Anthropologie. It’s faux fur sleeves are juxtaposed with military-inspired leather buckling on the front, marked down to $199.95.
