Publisher of Women’s Health, Prevention launches online retail store

The same publisher that has piqued the curiosity of many readers over the years with magazines geared to encourage and enlighten enthusiasts is now a retailer.
Rodale Inc. on Tuesday launched a new website, an effort that also marks the first-ever, solo e-commerce initiative from a publisher without involving outside partners.
Rodale’s ( rodales.com ), the new online shopping destination, boasts of “handpicked luxury” items and “sustainably-sourced goods”.
The parent company of Men’s Health, Women’s Health and Prevention is adding e-commerce to its portfolio in a move that its leaders say combines a decades-year-old heritage in organic lifestyle and environmental stewardship.
“Rodale’s is the next step in our company’s ongoing mission to make the world a healthier and happier place,” Rodale Inc. Chairman and CEO Maria Rodale said in Tuesday’s statement.
Eco-friendly retail offerings at Rodale’s are exclusive and original products that span a wide range of categories including clothing, makeup, household furnishings and garden care.
And, as one would expect from a Rodale-inspired brand, the site also offers a multitude of fitness and general care products for women and men.
“We want to help shape the future of conscious consumerism by embedding a new standard for responsibly created merchandise,” Rodale continued.
The company carefully vets products to be sold on Rodale’s to ensure quality and compliance with health-minded environmental standards.
As such, Rodale’s promotes certifications with USDA Organic, NATRUE, Natural Products Association, GOTS, Oeko-Tex®, Fair Trade Certified™ and more.
Rodale also says she believes that it’s “time for an online store to offer one place to discover stylish, sophisticated products that also provide peace of mind.”
Among the select artisanal vendors featured at site launch are Stewart+Brown apparel, Vapour Organic Beauty, Gabrielle Sanchez jewelry, Riess enamelware, Eileen Fisher apparel and Intelligent Nutrients beauty.
“In a world crowded with so many choices—and often-misleading information—we no longer have to compromise our health and environmental values, and that’s truly wonderful,” Rodale added.
The site’s leadership team includes SVP and General Manager Anthony Astarita, an executive who previously led NOOK efforts at Barnes & Noble, and merchandising expert Michele Barbone, formerly of Saks Fifth Avenue and Anthropologie.
