The best and worst dressed at the 2013 Golden Globes
Last night’s Golden Globes — otherwise colloquially referred to in the Twitter universe as the “Tina & Amy” show — had us swooning over big, soft curls reminiscent of the 1940s, cream-colored dresses and warm hues like coral, the color poppy and red.
Here’s our list of the best — and worst — dressed Hollywood starlettes. Let’s start with the good news first, yes?
Best:
Hayden Panettiere: We’ve been seeing the “Nashville star” in leg-baring, all-out sexy and shimmery dresses appropriate for her country diva character. Her more sophisticated Roberto Cavalli creme-colored gown was refreshing. A small quibble: Why did she steal Barbie’s purse? The mini-pink purse looks like a dress-up prop.
George Clooney: He looked dapper in his bow tie and tuxedo. But, perhaps his best accessory: Girlfriend Stacy Keibler and her sleek body-skimming black dress. (Hey, she was even photographed doing tequila shots with him after the show.
Jessica Alba: Her coral-colored Oscar de la Renta dress had us dreaming of spring and her slightly darker orange lipstick was dramatic in such a great way. That V-shaped diamond necklace she was donning? Reports say it’s a Harry Winston and cost $5.8 million.
For a lot cheaper, you can buy a stick of Yves St. Laurent “corail poetique” lipstick from Nordstrom to imitate her Alba’s lipstick choice for the red carpet.
Kerry Washington: We’ve become accustomed to seeing her in tailored power suits for her no-nonsense Olivia Pope character in the television drama “Scandal.” On Sunday night, she looked elegant in her semi-sheer dress with extravagantly beaded detailing.
Worst dressed:
Naomi Watts: Loved the regal burgundy color of her dress, but it looked like she tacked on her living room curtains to her backside and trailed them along like a tail.
J. Lo: From the neck up she looked stunning. We loved her glamorous make-up and side-swept bouncy curls. Then we were like, “Who sewed all of those lace doilies and pantyhose together to make that dress?”
Jury is still out:
Zooey Daschnel: We love the flirty dresses and girl-next-door look that Zooey channels on “The New Girl.” We couldn’t tell if her red-orange dress gave us bad prom flashbacks or was a classic pearls-and-gown Hollywood look.
